Gracious Hands
For my graphic design senior exhibition I decided to pair with a great non–profit organization, Gracious Hands Transitional Housing, to raise awareness on homelessness and show how their program can help women in need as they transition from homelessness into sustainability.
During my interview with Mrs. Sonja Chisolm, founder and director of Gracious Hands, she said to me,
“It is a beautiful feeling to see these women transform like butterflies in a matter of months and see them leave so proud and confident knowing that they can do it.” I used these words as inspiration for the Gracious Hands logo. The butterfly represents the transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency and their transformation from a state of vulnerability to a state of stability. I decided to go with bright colors to make the logo noticeable and inviting just like a place where a butterfly would choose to land.
Through my photography, I captured these women in powerful and captivating images. I then used the portraits to create an impactful series of posters that pairs each woman with the positive message she shares about the program. The organization will use these posters to raise awareness about the issue and to direct people to their website to learn more about the organization itself. Gracious Hands will also bring these posters to fundraisers and other events to be used as testimonies to capture attention and financial support.
Through this video, I put emphasis on the founder and director of Gracious Hands, Mrs. Sonja Chisolm, where she conveys a heartfelt message about the purpose of her program as she explains the importance of programs like this and why we should support them.
